Day 19 - Lizard Lighthouse - on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Near Lizard Point is the Lizard Lighthouse.  If you are a fan of lighthouses, you must visit this one!  Built in 1751, the lighthouse has been operated and maintained by Trinity House since 1771.  Trinity House is a charitable organization dedicated to the safety, welfare and training of mariners.  Inside, is the Lizard Lighthouse Visitors Centre.  We recommend the tours of the lighthouse.  The design is much different from the ones I'm used to seeing in the the US.  While ours are usually a single, tall tower, this one consists of two towers. The eastern tower is still functioning.  However, the western lantern was removed sometime after 1903.  The buildings that supported the twin lighthouses are much more extensive than I see across the pond.

Nearby, on Bass Point, is the Lloyds Signal Station and the Lizard Coastwatch Station which we did not have time to visit.

Day 19 - Lizard Point - on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

After walking through Marazion, we drove to the southern tip of The Lizard peninsula to a place called Lizard Point.  It is the furthest point south on the mainland of Britain.  We found Lizard Point to be a lovely, scenic place to visit - well worth the 45 minute drive from Marazion.
