2013 National Scout Jamboree: Day 2

On Day 2 we began the serious work of building the Tech Quest program area at the Cloud.  We started with a brand new site cut into the side of a mountain.  Power, water and porta-potties were available as well as internet access.  Several large wall tents were erected on gravel.  However, there was standing water in the tents from the heavy rain earlier in the week.

Home Sweet Home

After breakfast we headed up to the Cloud for the day.  Lots of setup to do.

A shot of Echo Base on my way to the Cloud

In the afternoon, the group walked down from the Cloud to the Summit Central area to see more of the Jamboree facilities.  Below is a photo of the Consul Energy Bridge.   Really cool pedestrian bridge!

Then we hoofed it back to Echo Base for supper.  Echo Lake was built partly as a fly fishing location.  But it was also great to see on the way from our tent to the Dining Hall.  I took the photo below at 4:00 pm.

Echo Lake

Cold showers!  Burr... they took a bit of time to get used to.  The water wasn't really that cold.  It was tepid.  But compared to the high 80's and 90'sF during the day, the water certainly felt cold.  Refreshing actually.  Along with many others, I used a solar water heater to heat up water for my evening shower.
