Day 18 - St. Ives On Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Do you like beaches, art galleries, small coastal towns?  You would love St. Ives!  St. Ives is a beautiful coastal town on the south west coast of Cornwall, England.  We left Bodmin at 9:30 am and drove to the St. Ives Park & Ride at Lelant Saltings.  We arrived about 11:00 am and took the St. Ives Branch Line train to Porthminster in St. Ives.  We then walked into St. Ives.  Over the period of five hours, we explored the town, two art galleries and three beaches.  We enjoyed some great seafood at the Ocean Grill, right on St. Ives Harbour.

In addition to the beaches, town and harbour, St. Ives is known for its Tate St. Ives art gallery.  We enjoyed seeing the art in the Tate, but found the gallery to be small compared to galleries in other cities in England.  The Tate St. Ives is one of four Tate galleries located in London, Liverpool and St. Ives.

St. Ives is also known for its Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden.  Barbara Hepworth was an English sculptor.  Her sculptures exemplify the Modernism movement.  She is also noted for helping to develop modern art in Britain.
